Activity overview:
As part of this month’s screening and discussion session, ANEC organized a screening of Inside
China: The Battle for Tibet from 6:00 PM to 7:40 PM, followed by a 10-minute discussion during
which participants shared their reflections and insights. The documentary explores the political,
cultural, and religious situation in Tibet under China’s governance, highlighting issues such as
strict state control, surveillance, and restrictions on Tibetan Buddhism. It also examines the
influence of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, and the sensitive issue of his
succession, presenting Tibet as both a human rights and geopolitical concern.
Objective: The objective of screening was to increase participants awareness of the political,
cultural, and religious situation in Tibet under China’s governance and to promote informed
discussion on issues of human rights, cultural preservation, and geopolitical significance.
Methodology:
The session began with a brief introduction of the participants, the organization, and the
documentary Inside China: The Battle for Tibet, followed by a one-hour screening.
After the screening, participants engaged in a discussion on key themes, including human rights,
cultural preservation, and nonviolent expression. The session concluded with a formal
expression of gratitude to all participants and collaborators.
Lessons learned or Problems faced if any during the implementation of the activities.
The screening time was adjusted from 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM to allow for sunset, as the screen
visibility was affected by daylight.
Suggestions for further improvements or corrective actions, if any regarding the activity:
I felt that the venue may be somewhat difficult to locate for first time visitors. Additionally, as
summer approaches and sunset occurs later in the evening, screen visibility may be affected by
daylight. Therefore, it would be advisable to schedule future screenings closer to sunset to
ensure better visibility.
Activity status: Completed.
