Activity overview:
As part of this month’s screening and discussion session, ANEC organized a screening of the
documentary Tibet: Murder in the Snow. The event was conducted from 6:00 PM to 7:10 PM,
followed by a 30-minute discussion where participants shared their reflections and insights.
The documentary presents the tragic Nangpa La incident, where Tibetan refugees attempting to
cross into Nepal were shot by Chinese border forces. It highlights the risks faced by Tibetans
fleeing repression and seeking freedom, education, and the opportunity to connect with His
Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The film provided a powerful visual account of human rights violations while also emphasizing
the resilience and courage of Tibetans. The discussion that followed allowed participants to
reflect on themes of nonviolence, exile, and the global significance of documenting such events.
Objective: The primary objective of the screening was to deepen participants’ understanding of
the challenges faced by Tibetan refugees and to raise awareness about human rights issues in
Tibet. The documentary also aimed to highlight how documenting truth and sharing stories can
serve as a form of nonviolent resistance and global advocacy.

Methodology:
• The session began with a brief introduction of the participants, the organization, and the
documentary.
• A screening of the documentary ( 59 minutes) was conducted.
• This was followed by a short discussion where participants shared their reflections on
the film, particularly on human rights, nonviolence, and exile.
• The session concluded with an expression of gratitude to all participants.

Lessons learned or Problems faced if any during the implementation of the activities:
The screening and discussion were postponed due to venue-related issues; however, the session
was later conducted successfully at Gonpo’s Tibetan History Library.

Suggestions for further improvements or corrective actions, if any regarding the activity:
It is recommended to establish backup plans in case the screening and discussion cannot be
conducted at the primary venue. Identifying an alternative venue in advance would help avoid
disruptions. Additionally, as the sessions are scheduled every Friday, it is important to confirm
the availability of the venue at least one week prior to the screening.

Activity status: Completed.
