Specific Activity:

ANEC successfully organized the screening and discussion of the documentary film “Tibet Within: The Tibetan Struggle in Exile” on August 16, 2024. The film was screened from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM and focused on the nonviolent struggles of the Tibetan people living in exile. Following the screening, a discussion session was held to delve deeper into the topics presented.

 

Objective:

The primary objective of the event was to raise awareness about the challenges and cultural preservation efforts of Tibetans in exile. The session aimed to inform participants about the Tibetan struggle, their rich history, and the continuous efforts to maintain their cultural identity despite the difficulties they face.

Film Screening Methodology:

The program commenced with an introduction to ANEC and its mission. Attendees were provided with our magazines for further reading.

The documentary, lasting one hour, began with an overview of the occupation of Tibet in 1949 and the subsequent disruptions to Tibetan civilization, which led to the loss of over a million lives. The film highlighted the resilience of Tibetans in exile, showcasing how they have established a vibrant community that continues to preserve their culture, language, and way of life.

Key aspects covered in the documentary include the establishment of a democratic government in exile and the construction of monasteries and schools. These institutions play a vital role in religious preservation and education, offering both Tibetan language courses and an international curriculum to ensure a well-rounded education for Tibetan youth while keeping them connected to their heritage.

The event took place on a rainy day, leading to a lower turnout than anticipated.
