Specific Activity:
1. Story telling: The session started with book introduction and the story of ‘YERTLE
THE TURTLE’’ by Dr. Seuss.
2. Problem solving activity: According to the message from the book on problem
solving and leadership, students were divided by four group with one leader among
them. They were assigned a situation where everybody is stuck in a deserted island
and were given to choose ten objects from twenty to survive. Students were
encouraged to analyze and discuss thoroughly within the group.
3. Fun game session: last ten minute of session was concluded with fun session to give
them a message on importance of teamwork.
Key Objectivity: To teach student about the importance of leadership skills and
problem solving.
Activity Overview:
Seeds of Awareness program at TCV Day School began with a warm greeting and five
minutes reminder of last session followed by storytelling of ‘YERTLE THE TURTLE’’ by
Dr. Seuss. The story highlighted a Yertle who is greedy and bossy leader, mistreated
others will eventually fall, it gives message to students that power gained by hurting
others never lasts. True strength comes from respect, kindness, and fairness. After
the story students were divided in 4 group assigning a leader amomg them by
themself and did a problem-solving session. They solved the problem in group led by
the group leader, and in behalf of the group the leader explained the reason behind
their answer. Lastly, we ended up ten minutes of our session with fun game among
the student. In today session student learned about leadership, respect and
teamwork and expressed their view of a good leadership.
Methodology:
• The session began with reminder of the last session.
• Storytelling was used as the main activity, where the book “YERTLE THE TOURTLE”
is narrated to teach student about the value of leadership, respect and teamwork.
• After the story, we took five minutes on the question answer on the story and its
message, with the lesson they have learned I divided the student into 4 groups
letting them vote a leader among them by themself and did a problem-solving
activity, they solved the problem lead by the group leader, and in behalf of the
group the leader explain the reason behind their answer.
• The session was wrap up by paying a fun game related to the team work.
