Activity Overview:
ANEC organized the Screening and discussion program in collaboration with VTAG at New Serkong House. The event featured the documentary “Escape over the Himalayas: Tibet’s Children on their Journey into Exile”. The program began with the brief introduction to ANEC, the purpose of the event and the film itself. Following the 30 minutes screening, a 10–15-minute open discussion was facilitated, as to gain the audience’s insights and thoughts about the film, concluded with closing remarks from VTAG.
Objective:
The main objective of this screening was to raise awareness regarding the Tibetan struggle, resilience and the ongoing human rights challenges under the Chinese rule. The film highlights the immense sacrifices made by parents, the resilience of these children, and the vital role of education in cultural preservation.
Methodology:
- The event started with a brief introduction to ANEC’s mission, the significance of this program and the documentary of “escape over the Himalayas: Tibet’s children on their journey into exile”.
- The documentary highlighted the immense sacrifices parents make in sending their children across the border, the resilience of these kids, and what it means to preserve one’s identity. Through this documentary its shows how education is important for cultural preservation and how China efforts to assimilate the Tibetan identity, language, culture and religion. But with all those obstacles, Tibetan people are actively working to preserve the language and culture.
- After the screening, attendees engaged in a meaningful discussion by sharing their insights and thoughts about the documentary, followed by closing remarks from VTAG.
