Project/Program Name: Screening and Discussion (S&D)
Documentary Film: Under Cover in Tibet
Reported By: Chime Denkar (Intern)
Date of Activity: 12th September, 2025
Venue and Location: Hope Café.
Total Participant: 8
Resource Person: Chime Denkar (Intern)

OBJECTIVE AND OVERVIEW:

The screening and discussion program on the Undercover in Tibet was organized by the active
nonviolence education center (ANEC) at hope café in collaboration with Stories of Tibetans. The
main objective of the event was to share the real stories of Tibetan people with international
audiences and help them understand what life is like in Tibet today, creating meaningful
connections beyond what they might see in the official narrative.

METHODOLOGY:

1.introduction:
The event started with a short introduction to Active Nonviolence Education Center (ANEC),
explaining who we are and what we do, we distributed flyer and magazines about our
organization so that participants could learn more about ANEC’s work and mission in promoting
nonviolence and justice.

2.Documentary screening:
We then screened the documentary film title: Under Cover in Tibet, which ran for about an
hour. The film shows the hidden reality of life in Tibet that people don’t usually see. Along with
the main film, we also showed the stories of the political prisoner Dorji Tashi and his sister
Gonpo Kyi’s urgent situation, which showed how a one person can break down the fake
narrative of dictatorship.

3. discussion and feedback:
After the screening we shared our thoughts and reflection on the film. Participants asked many
questions, especially about political prisoner Dorji Tashi and his sister Gonpo Kyi stories. They were very interested in learning more about what happened to them. The feedback we received
was very encouraging.

4. closing
The event ended on a very emotional note. One of our audience members, who was originally
from Tibet, started crying when she saw the places in the documentary. she recognized her
homeland in the film, and we all felt her pain and connection to what we had just watched. It
was so moving that I also started crying – the emotion was just too much to bear. This moment
showed us how powerful these stories are and how they touch people hearts.

LESSON LEARNED AND CHALLENGES FACED:

The screening taught us that even small events can create deep emotional connection and
meaningful discussions about the important issue. Regarding advertising our previous screening
had very few attendees, which showed us that pasting poster alone was not effective. So, this
time with our project officer’s help we changed our strategy: we printed 10 posters in A3 size
and pasted on noticeable walls, while 10 posters in A4 size were handed directly to people,
accompanied by shorted explanation. this face-to-face approach worked much better. we had
more viewers compared to very few last time. We learned that combining direct distribution
with explaining is more effective than relying in wall pastings and online advertising.
