Activity Overview

  1. Introduction to Seeds of Awareness Program
    The Seeds of Awareness program, a collaboration between the Active Nonviolence Education Center and Manjushri Educational Services, is dedicated to spreading awareness on active nonviolence and gender sensitization among Tibetan children. Our goal is to make the activities memorable and enjoyable while focusing on gender mainstreaming and conflict resolution through peaceful dialogue.The program aims to help children develop self-confidence and embrace their uniqueness through the storytelling of “Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon” and related art activities. This initiative encourages children to appreciate themselves and build a positive self-image.
  2. Methodology

Storytelling Session:

  • Introduction: The session began with a brief overview of the book’s themes, encouraging children to share their experiences with confidence.
  • Read Aloud: Selected portions of the book were read aloud with enthusiasm, bringing Molly Lou Melon’s story to life for the children.
  • Discussion: A discussion followed, focusing on the story’s messages and their relevance to the children’s own lives.

Art Drawing Session:

  • Introduction to Art Activity: The art activity was introduced to further explore the themes of self-expression and self-love presented in the book.
  • Art Instructions: Participants were provided with art materials and guided to create drawings of themselves or a character from the book, emphasizing their unique qualities.

    A notable success story involved a shy participant who, inspired by the story, drew a superhero version of themselves. This creative expression significantly boosted their confidence, allowing them to share their artwork with the group. This demonstrated the program’s impact on fostering self-esteem and self-expression.

The Seeds of Awareness program has proven successful in helping children develop self-confidence and express their individuality. With minor adjustments, particularly in time management, the program can further enhance its effectiveness and enjoyment for participants.
